An electron cyclotron maser (gyrotron) based on the excitation of a surface wave (plasmon) in an open cavity is proposed. The possibilities of implementing such a “plasmon gyrotron” in the terahertz frequency range are discussed, as well as its advantages in terms of ensuring selective excitation of high cyclotron harmonics in it.
