Abstract

The purpose of the study is to identify the characteristics of the content of the Winter Paralympic Games from 1992 to 2002 and the success of Russian athletes' performances in these competitions.
Research methods and organization. Based on the analysis of competition protocols from the examined sports forums, recollections of event participants, personal sports diaries of participants, as well as the analysis of video and photographic materials dedicated to the Games in question, a comprehensive analysis of the content of sports and related sports events that took place during the Winter Paralympic Games from 1992 to 2002 has been conducted.
Research results and conclusions. Between 1992 and 2002, the International Paralympic Committee held four Winter Paralympics, during which the competition program expanded through the inclusion of new sporting disciplines and sports, refinement of specialized classification, and active use of new competitive equipment. During this period, the Paralympic movement became increasingly popular. Starting in 1994, all sporting events of the Winter Paralympic Games were held at the same venues as the preceding Winter Olympic Games. There was an increase in the number of participating countries and athletes from one Games to the next, with Russian athletes winning an ever-growing number of medals. At the 1998 Winter Games, athletes with intellectual disabilities participated for the first time in history.
